He was usually picked on at school, and being known as a Spider-Man enthusiast, he referred to himself as Spider-Man's alter ego, Peter Parker. After attending several schools including Priory Preparatory School and City of London Freemen's School the actor took classes at Central School of Speech and Drama and University of London where he was awarded his degree in 2004. His interest in acting developed following the realization that he wasn't concerned about studying business anymore. His professional career took off in 2005 when he starred on the British TV show "Sugar Rush". In the movie "Boy A" the actor played a troubled teenager who tried to rebuild his life after spending the last few years in prison. He was also in "The Social Network,"" acting as the principal character followed by the movie "The Marvelous Spider-Man." In addition to being able to play numerous roles, his role was chosen as the lead actor in the historical production "Silence" in the year 2016. There were numerous awards presented to him, like an award from the BAFTA Award and Tony Award. In addition, he was awarded an A.A.C.T.A. After his appearance in Hacksaw Ridge and the subsequent award ceremony, he won the prize for "Best Actor". He was also awarded numerous Oscar nominations as well having the opportunity to work together with Sam Worthington and Campbell Scott.
