Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was appointed chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel during the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently together with the president Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
